Preliminary Magnitude 6.9 Earthquake Rocks Fiji

A strong earthquake has struck off the coast of Fiji at 6:54 a.m. PST Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake initially measured 6.9 magnitude, but was downgraded to 6.8, and struck about 62 miles northeast of Ndoi Island, Fiji.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says no destructive widespread tsunami threat exists to Hawaii or other regions as the quake shook 383 miles deep.
