Magnitude 2.4 Earthquake Shakes Sonoma County Geysers
CALISTOGA (BCN) -- The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.4 struck Monday afternoon in Sonoma County.
The quake shook an area near the Geysers at 4:44 p.m. and had a depth of 1.7 miles, according to the USGS. The tremor was centered three miles north-northeast of the Geysers.
The Geysers is the largest single geothermal field in the world, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, and experiences constant seismic events between 0.5 and 3.0 on the Richter scale.
