Funding Gap Closed On SF Doyle Drive Construction Project
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – City officials and San Francisco commuters can breathe a sigh of relief now that a $54 million funding gap in the billion dollar Doyle Drive project was finally filled.
Doyle Drive, which was deemed seismically unsafe, is being replaced by a new roadway that will be called the Presidio Parkway.
Caltrans, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the San Francisco County Transportation Authority joined together to gather money to complete the projec.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
Jose Luis Moscovich, the executive director of the county transportation authority, said that the replacement of Doyle Drive is incredibly necessary.
"It's a huge seismic risk, and that was our main concern, that the public be able to be circulating on a seismically sound facility as soon as possible," said Moscovich, who adds that the roadway carries 140,000 vehicles each day.
Construction is expected to be complete in 2015.
