Macklemore Apologizes to Kendrick Lamar for Winning Rap GRAMMY
By Jeremy D. Larson
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis walked away from the 2014 GRAMMY Awards with four trophies. In addition to Best New Artist, the duo swept every Rap category they were nominated in, including Best Rap Song and Performance for "Thrift Shop," and best Album for The Heist.
However there are many who thought that Kendrick Lamar's 2013 opus good kid m.A.A.d. city —which garnered zero awards at the ceremony— should have taken home a statue or two. One of those people is Macklemore.
In a text to Kendrick after the ceremony that he posted on his Instagram, Macklemore said, "You got robbed. I wanted you to win. It's weird and sucks that I robbed you." No, the fact that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' album is called The Heist does not escape us. Here's the whole text:

My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album... I'm honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That's what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys
While we wait for a reply text from Kendrick, we should note that this text story has a prelude, as well. Kendrick (presumably) woke Macklemore up in the morning on Sunday with this friendly little iMessage:
