Lucasfilm Animation Teases New 'Star Wars' Series
(CBS SF) - Lucasfilm Animation/Lucasfilm, based at the Presidio in San Francisco has released a short teaser trailer for their upcoming animated series "Star Wars: Rebels."
The :16 second teaser shows an animated version of the iconic "Star Destroyer" flying above a planet during the opening of the original 1977 Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
In September, film actors Freddie Prinze Jr. (She's All That) and British actor David Oyelowo (Lee Daniels: The Butler) were in the process to be cast in lead roles.
The new series is set to debut in the Fall of 2014, as previously reported. Appropriately enough, the animated series will be presented as a one-hour special on the Disney Channel in the fall of 2014. If all goes well, "Star Wars Rebels" will run on Disney XD. Lucasfilm will produce the new series.
Disney purchsed Lucasfilm Ltd. from George Lucas a year ago for over $4 billion which included Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) Skywalker Sound, the rights to the "Indiana Jones" franchise and Lucasfilm Animation. Lucasfilm continues to be headquartered in San Francisco's Presidio.
