Lucas' 'Red Tails' Takes Flight
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Anyone who wondered what is happening to George Lucas' "Red Tails," wonder no more. The movie, a fictionalized story of The Tuskegee Airmen in World War II, has a release date and a trailer.
John Ridley wrote the screenplay from a story by Lucas. The ensemble drama features Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard and Bryan Cranston. And Gerald McRaney! If Jameson Parker showed up, that would be amazing.
San Francisco based, LucasFilm began filming this movie in 2009 with director Anthony Hemingway. In February 2010, first showing.com reported that Lucas himself was directing reshoots for the movie.
The release date is Jan. 20, 2012. Anyone who knows movie releases knows that a January release isn't ideal, especially with a name like Lucas' attached to a project.
But the trailer is effective: Lots of action, lots of can-do attitude. Will the movie be worth seeing or will it be in keeping with many of the non-"Star Wars" projects put out by Lucasfilm: Forgettable. Let us know what you think in the comments section.
