Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom Kicked Off Democratic County Central Committee
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)- Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom has been booted off the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee.
Newsom's ousting was orchestrated by former Supervisor and DCCC Chairman Aaron Peskin.
Peskin announced at this week's meeting that since his old adversary, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom is not living in San Francisco, then he's out.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor:
Newsom recently sold his Ashbury Heights home in the city and moved to his in-law's house in the North Bay for the summer.
Peskin defended his actions and said he was just following the rules.
"The Democratic party are very clear that one has to be a resident in order to serve," he said.
"In this particular instance the individual in question sold his house and moved to Marin."
But some subcommittee members objected to Newsom's ouster and demanded a vote, which didn't change the outcome.
San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener who also sits on the committee said it's not the end of the issue.
"It's a fair question to ask about where he resides, but this process was inappropriate and it should be rescinded."
But the ouster didn't seem to faze Newsom, who said it's inconsequential and he has other more important items to tend to in his role as Lt. Governor.
There's no word yet on whether Newsom plans to return to San Francisco, in which case Peskin said he could also return to the Democratic County Central Committee.
