Los Angeles Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Reportedly Battling Cancer
LOS ANGELES (CBS SF) -- After receiving a lifetime ban from the NBA, multiple media outlets reported Thursday that Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has prostate cancer.
The New York Post first reported the story and ESPN.com claimed their sources also confirmed the 80-year-old is battling cancer.
Sterling's attorney told sister station KCAL-TV in Los Angeles that he could not comment.
The NBA banned Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers and the league in the wake of racist remarks he made on an audio recording. He was also fined $2.5 million.
NBA owners held their first meeting to discuss forcing Sterling to sell the Los Angeles team on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, the president of the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP announced his resignation, following a decision to honor Sterling with a lifetime achievement award. The award has since been rescinded.
The Clippers are in the middle of a first round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors forced a deciding Game 7 after defeating the Clippers 100-99 Thursday night.
