Los Altos Man Who Photographed Kids Accused Of Child Porn
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- San Mateo police arrested a Los Altos man on child pornography charges this week after he was seen hanging around gymnastics classes taking photos of young children with his mobile phone.
Police were called to Peninsula Gymnastics, on the 1700 block of Leslie Street, around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday by a concerned parent, officials said today.
The parent reported seeing a stranger hanging around the location for the past several weeks, acting suspiciously and taking photographs of young children with his cell phone.
Police contacted the man, later identified as Edward George Mielke, 19, and found photos of some children outside the facility on his cell phone.
The phone also allegedly contained photos of other young children taken during physical activities at other locations and Internet child pornography.
After a search of Mielke's home, police also located additional suspicious photographs and materials. He was arrested and booked on suspicion of possessing child pornography and child annoyance.
San Mateo police are working with the staff at Peninsula Gymnastics to identify the children in the photographs and determine whether there was any inappropriate contact between them and Mielke. It does not appear that Mielke entered the facility or took photos inside.
