Man Fatally Shot In Backyard Of Los Altos Home
LOS ALTOS (CBS SF) – Los Altos police were investigating a fatal shooting in the backyard of a home in Los Altos on Monday morning.
Officers responded at about 10:55 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the backyard of a residence in the 1000 block of Highlands Circle and found the victim there, according to police.
The victim, whose name is not yet being released, was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. Police have not arrested the suspected shooter as of Tuesday morning and did not release any other details about the case except that the victim was not a resident of the home.
The homicide was the first one in Los Altos since 1994.
"An individual was shot multiple times, officers arrived on scene and tried to render aid to the individual," said Los Altos Police Sgt. Steven Spillman. The quiet, leafy Silicon Valley suburb, already still from shelter-in-place orders, locked down for nearly eight hours for the police investigation.
The commotion caught neighbor Karen Wong by surprise while she was filming a segment for her YouTube channel, The Meaning Code.
"I heard a bunch of sirens, but I couldn't stop taping, so I just continued what I was doing because I was interviewing a psychotherapist from Canada," Wong told KPIX 5 on Tuesday afternoon.
Wong and her family couldn't leave their home, even to walk their dogs, for hours. "Everything was blocked off but also they had blocked off everything up on this end and they had blocked off everything going that way," said Wong. "We had no ingress or egress from our neighborhood for 8 hours or something like that."
Los Altos police did not immediately release the name of the victim until his family can be notified, but said the victim did not live at the residence. The suspect in the case remains unknown and at large.
