Looking For Lottery Luck? Here Are The 5 Winningest Bay Area Lotto Sellers
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - With the Mega Millions draw at $74 million and Powerball at $500 million, it's no wonder people are headed to the stores with the big "L" in droves. Is there a method to the madness? A way to find an edge on other ticket-holders? Probably not, but that won't stop us from trying.
So where have people had the most luck plunking down their precious dollars? Here is a look at the "luckiest" retailers in the Bay Area.
KAVANAGH LIQUORS - 500 Via Mercado, San Leandro
The site of $11 Million win by a retiree in 2012, lottery officials say this is actually the most frequent winning spot in the state. The shop is credited with selling four jackpot winners, more than any other retailer in California. That reputation has made it a go-to buying spot for lottery players and TV cameras trying to catch the buying frenzy firsthand.
LIQUOR CITY - 1230 W Hillsdale Boulevard, San Mateo
The Peninsula's lone retailer on the lucky list boasts two jackpot wins.
KWIK STOP - 3157 Walnut Ave, Fremont
This little shop is home to two jackpot winners. Just last summer a couple cashed in for $52 million after buying a Mega Millions ticket from the store.
JENNY'S GIFT SHOP - 1818 Tully Road, San Jose
This little shop was the sale site for one of two winning tickets in the 2nd biggest jackpot in American history, a $648 million Mega Millions prize. In the process, the enthusiastic store owner became a favorite of local players.
Dixon Landing Chevron - 1551 California Circle, Milpitas
A ticket with numbers 17, 49, 54, 35, 1, and the Powerball number 34, matched for a $425 million prize in February. Records indicate it was the single most valuable ticket ever sold in California because no other ticket matched all of the numbers for that draw.
