Longtime San Jose Shark Evgeni Nabokov Announces Retirement
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- The man who owns most goaltending records for the San Jose Sharks announced his retirement Wednesday after a 14-year NHL career.
Evgeni Nabokov made the announcement at a press conference days after the Sharks and Tampa Bay Lightning agreed to a deal that would allow the 39-year-old goalie to retire with the team that drafted him back in 1994.
Nabokov played 10 seasons with San Jose beginning in 1999 and ending in the 2009-2010 season when he was traded to the New York Islanders after the year. He is the Sharks franchise leader in games played as goalie, wins and shutouts.
Nabokov ends his career with 353 wins (293 with the Sharks) a 2.44 goals against average and 91.1% save percentage. He appeared in 11 games this season for the Lightning, posting a 3-6-2 record before being traded to San Jose on February 9th so he could retire as a Shark.
