NorCal Lawmakers Respond To Debt Plan
SACRAMENTO (KCBS) --- The debt plan's details are minimal at this point, but it would add to the nation's debt limit in a two-part package, while slicing $1 trillion in federal spending over the next decade.
East Bay Congresswoman Barbara Lee welcomed word of a deal but feared the social program cuts will be deep. KCBS spoke with her before President Obama's address.
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:
"It's a very tough fight, and we are anxious to look at what the details of this new deal are," she said.
Sacramento GOP Congressman Dan Lungren is confident that the two parties will agree on cuts.
"I don't believe that we have to have across the board cuts either," he said. "Make Congress do its work."
The President told the country in a national broadcast this isn't the way he thought best to make the cuts and to boost the debt limit. There will be a bi-partisan Congressional committee reporting back on where to make the cuts by November.
Everything is contingent on a vote in both the the Senate and the House which will come as soon as Monday.
