Livermore School Locked Down For Hours, Gunman Not Found

LIVERMORE (CBS SF) – A middle school in Livermore was locked down for several hours Wednesday as police searched the campus for an armed suspect.

After a thorough search of East Avenue Middle School, no suspects were found, Livermore police said.

Officers responded around 4 p.m. to the school, located at 3951 East Ave., after receiving a 911 call from an adult at the school who reported seeing a male with a rifle walking in the school's hallway, police said.

Most of the students had left for the day but an after-school program was in progress when the school was locked down for a police search.

Police said the students gathered in one room with an adult advisor and police officers. Their parents waited at a nearby shopping center where they were kept apprised of the search, police said.

The students were reunited with their parents about three hours later when no suspect was located and the lock down was ended.

Pleasanton police and the California Highway Patrol assisted and East Avenue was closed to traffic between Jensen Street and Hillcrest Avenue during the search.
