Lightning Strike Blows Out Home's Windows In Sausalito, PG&E Reports Outages
SAUSALITO (KCBS)— A lightning bolt hit a tree and a home in Sausalito during a Monday afternoon thunderstorm. No one was hurt in the lightning strike reported around 12:30 p.m., but it did blow out the windows of Elizabeth Small's home at 134 Spencer Avenue.
A roughly 60 to 80-foot tall coastal redwood tree behind her deck was struck. The force ripped the deck apart and shattered a sliding-glass door as well as a plate-glass window.
"Everyone around here said it sounded like an explosion or a bomb," she said.
The force of the blast also blew out windows at 136 Spencer Ave. about 20 feet away, according to Southern Marin Fire Protection District Chief Jim Irving. Two people in that home were not injured.

Small said she just happened to go out for a routine doctor's appointment.
"I could have been hurt because I would have been sitting at the dining room table," she said.
The dining room table was covered with shards of glass and broken bits of redwood.
While there was no fire, the fire department arrived along with a crew from PG&E and Small's insurance agent.
PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said 1,116 Sausalito area customers lost power from the strike at 12:57 p.m. The power came back on by 2:30 p.m., but went out again for an unknown reason at 2:55 p.m. and had not yet been restored.
