Levi's Stadium Days Away From Opening Ceremony, First 49er Game
SANTA CLARA (KPIX 5) -- Levi's Stadium will officially open on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in time for the first 49er game in August, but questions over transportation logistics remain.
Nobody knows exactly how many fans will take light rail, which drops people off at several different spots near the stadium.
One critical point will be the Mountain View Transportation Center. That's where fans riding Caltrain coming in from San Francisco will have to get off, cross active tracks and board a light rail train.
Add to that all the people who will be doing the Park and Ride.
There are sure to be a few hiccups and headaches to work out. It's recommend you buy as many transportation tickets as you can in advance.
The other issue is parking. The city council has passed a pilot program to limit parking in the city's 11 lots and garages to just three hours.
Mountain View is a major transit hub, and there are concerns that too many parking spaces will be filled there all day long by fans taking VTA light rail to the stadium.
Basically, it's protection from downtown getting inundated with hundreds of cars on game day.
The first football game ever played at Levi's Stadium will be broadcast on KPIX 5 on August 17.
