Lawyers Say Evidence Will Clear Suspect In Giants Fan Beating
LOS ANGELES (CBS) -- Attorneys for the man accused of brutally beating San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow say they have given police proof that their client did not do it.
Two defense attorneys for Giovanni Ramirez said they handed over information Tuesday morning to prosecutors and detectives that they say will clear their client.
"We emailed them 11 reports this morning. We also gave them to the District Attorney's Office, which are alibi witnesses – people who were with our client on March 31 this year, the opening day," attorney Anthony Brooklier said.
Stow, a paramedic and father of two from Santa Cruz County, was wearing Giants gear when he was brutally beaten outside Dodger Stadium following the season opener between the Giants and Dodgers.
Authorities say a second attacker was involved, along with a woman who drove the pair from the scene.
Charges have not been filed against Ramirez, who is in police custody on a parole hold for allegedly giving his parole agents a phony address and having a loaded gun in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck is still certain that his detectives have the right suspect.
"Well we want to have the best case possible before we present it to the D.A.," Beck said.
Ramirez's attorneys told CBS they also turned over their client's cell phone records.
"We're so confident David we haven't checked it out first. We just gave it to them," Brooklier said.
It's unclear at this time if Ramirez's request to take a lie detector test will be granted.
