Lawmakers Call For Western Bay Bridge Span To Be Named For Willie Brown
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - A group of lawmakers is proposing that the old span of the Bay Bridge be named after former Assembly Speaker and San Francisco Mayor, Willie Brown.
Assemblywoman Cheryl Brown, who is co-authoring the resolution, tells the Sacramento Bee that Brown was able to "bridge all kinds of people and I think he is very deserving of this. Another co-sponsor, Assemblyman, Chris Holden, said "Willie Brown has been a trailblazer in so many ways" and it would be an honor to name the bridge after him.
The new eastern span of the Bay Bridge is due to open later this year. The project has been embroiled in controversy involving faulty materials and questionable testing procedures.
