Latest Employment Numbers Reveal Who's Hiring In The Bay Area
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Apple, Google and other Silicon Valley tech companies continue to hang out the help wanted sign. The latest employment figures show that the biggest demand for workers in the Bay Area continues to be for workers with skills in technology.
"Internet and social media, computer services - really in the tech sector - they're making goods and services that they sell around the world," Stephen Levy, Director and Senior Economist at the Center For Continuing Study of the California Economy explained where the jobs could be found locally.
According to state labor officials, the demand for registered nurses was high, too. In fact, Kaiser Permanente joined a handful of well-known Silicon Valley firms on the list of those with the most job postings in March 2012.
Ultimately, Levy attributes the surge in Bay Area hiring to a bit of a construction boom.
"There's just building all over Silicon Valley, with companies expecting to fill the space with new employees," he said.
