Late Morning Antioch House Fire Kills Dog, Displaces 8
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- Eight people, including children, were displaced from their Antioch home after a fire broke out there late Saturday morning, according to fire officials.
The fire was first reported at 11:41 a.m. at a home in the 1900 block of Evergreen Avenue, Contra Costa Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said.
Upon arrival, fire crews noticed heavy smoke coming from the both the front and back of the home. Upon closer inspection, firefighters saw flames erupting from the back.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control by about noon, according to Marshall.
None of the home's residents were injured, however a pet dog was killed during the fire, Marshall said.
Three children and five adult residents were displaced.
While a cause for the fire remains under investigation, fire investigators believe the blaze may have started in a bathroom, according to Marshall.
The fire caused extensive damage throughout the home and fire officials are estimating the loss to be valued at about $220,000, Marshall said.
