Last Minute Turkey Donations Help South Bay Organization Near Goal
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Generous donors in the South Bay are answering the call for turkeys as hundred of gobblers have been coming in this week for needy families.
Graciela Mann, with Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose, said their largest single donation came from an anonymous donor, who heard about the need for turkeys on the news.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
"(That person) just went to Costco and bought $3,000 worth of turkeys and delivered them to us," Mann said. "It was such a generous donation and we're incredibly thankful. The community has responded in a huge way to our request for turkeys."
Another donor was a 10-year-old birthday boy, who decided to ask for money for turkeys instead of presents.
All of the donations have just about completed Sacred Heart's goal of 4,000 food boxes for Thanksgiving.
Meanwhile, at Second Harvest Food Bank, donors have contributed about 8,600 turkeys, short of the goal of 12,000.
However, Second Harvest's Food and Fund drive lasts through the end of the year.
