Larry Magid: Disney Offering iPad Experience For Upcoming Movie
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – In an unusual move, Disney is asking moviegoers to bring their iPads when they see the re-release of The Little Mermaid in theaters.
The movie will be hitting theaters on Friday on a limited basis. Disney has created an iPad app, so moviegoers can play games, sing-along with lyrics and use other interactive elements meant to enhance the experience of watching the film.
While some may think this is a distraction, Disney is hoping to make it an interactive viewing experience, especially with an audience that will be mostly children.
This is not Disney's first foray into a multitasking movie experience, as the company has done this with DVD's in the past. Disney also did a trial run with The Nightmare Before Christmas last year.
You can hear Larry Magid's Tech Report Monday through Friday at 3:50pm on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
