Laid-Off Solyndra Employees In Demand At Newark Job Fair
NEWARK (CBS 5) - Hundreds of laid off Solyndra employees attended a special hi-tech jobs fair at Ohlone College in Newark Friday.
Former Solyndra competitors such as Ascent Solar, Solar City and others were competing for ex Solyndra employees – so much so that organizers had to limit attendance to 38 companies.
Nearly half of the former Solyndra employees attended Friday's event, many are highly skilled after years of work in the solar industry.
Many of the workers hadn't seen each other since the company went under last month.
"Now I'm looking for work along with a lot of my other friends," said former Solyndra employee Henry Nichols. "We'll just venture out and see what comes up, and I think it'll be all good."
The U.S. solar market is still up 67% over the past couple of years, and expected to grow.
