Lafayette Teacher Aide Accused Of Sexual Assault

LAFAYETTE (CBS SF) - A teacher's aide at Springhill Elementary School in Lafayette is facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting another woman in Walnut Creek last year, authorities said Wednesday.

Brentwood resident Stephanie Elliott, 39, was arrested in the parking lot of the school, located on 3301 Springhill Road, around 10:30 a.m. Friday, Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

She was arraigned in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez on Monday afternoon on charges of oral copulation of an unconscious person and attempted sexual penetration, Deputy District Attorney Nancy Georgiou said Wednesday.

Georgiou said the charges stem from an alleged sexual assault that occurred in July 2010.

Lee noted that the arrest "has nothing to do with the school or any students."

Elliott was held at the Martinez Detention Facility after her arrest but has since been released on $100,000 bail, Lee said Wednesday.

Elliott has worked at the school, which serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade, for about four years a teacher's aide for students with special needs, Lafayette School District Superintendent Fred Brill said.

She was placed on administrative leave after her arrest and is due to return to court Dec. 22 to enter a plea.
