KTVU News Van Burglarized In Oakland
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A KTVU news van parked in West Oakland was robbed Thursday while a reporter and photographer were on assignment, the latest in a string of crimes targeting news crews in the Bay Area.
The station's van was parked in the 3300 block of Market Street around noon Thursday for a mural unveiling and dedication organized by the Attitudinal Healing Connection, according to an article in the Oakland Tribune.
The thieves smashed a window of the van, and stole approximately $20,000 worth of equipment, including two laptops. The reporter's purse, which was left in an unlocked lock box was also stolen. The purse was found empty just two blocks away from the van.
This was the latest in a spate of robberies and burglaries against news photographers and reporters.
Some news stations have been sending armed guards along with crews reporting from Oakland.
A 19-year-old man was arrested in November for the robbery of a CBS 5 cameraman in front of an Oakland high school. He was released on bail but later skipped his court date and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
