KPIX 5 To Present 'A Super Night On The New Bay Bridge'
OAKLAND (CBS 5) -- KPIX-TV will present a live primetime special, "A Super Night on the New Bay Bridge," on Sunday night immediately following Super Bowl XLVII and a special post-game episode of the CBS hit drama "Elementary."
"A Super Night on the New Bay Bridge" will originate from New Orleans and the new eastern span of the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge, which is set to open on Labor Day weekend 2013.
California Gov. Jerry Brown, a former Oakland mayor, will start the countdown clock to the opening of the new Bay Bridge.
"A Super Night at the New Bay Bridge" will feature live post-game Super Bowl coverage from the Superdome and New Orleans with Vern Glenn, Michelle Griego, Dennis O'Donnell and Mike Sugerman reporting, as well as 49er fan reactions from around the Bay Area to the team's quest for their historic sixth Super Bowl championship. The special will include game highlights, interviews and analysis.
Anchoring the first live television program from the deck of the new Bay Bridge will be Ken Bastida (KPIX 5), Stan Bunger (KCBS All News 740 AM & FM 106.9) and Tony Lopez (CBS sister station KOVR-TV in Sacramento). They will be joined by KPIX 5 Chief Meteorologist Paul Deanno with the station's state-of-the-art Mobile Weather Lab, and Christin Ayers, KPIX's East Bay reporter.
The prime-time special will also present new information about the plan to close the Bay Bridge for five days, when it will reopen, and the activities being considered to celebrate its completion; plus stories about the history and future of the Bay Bridge.
"We will be celebrating two extraordinary local accomplishments – a Super Bowl appearance by our San Francisco 49ers and the completion of the new Bay Bridge by an inspired team of designers and builders," said Bruno Cohen, KPIX 5 President and General Manager.
