KPIX 5 Poll: 48% Of Californians Want Prop 8 Overturned, 35% Opposed
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) - As Californians await an expected U.S. Supreme Court Ruling on California's Proposition 8 same-sex marriage ban, a newly released KPIX-TV poll finds that only 35% of Californians feel the court should uphold the ban.
The poll, conducted for KPIX 5 by the firm SurveyUSA, found that 48 percent reported that the Supreme Court should uphold the lower court ruling which would end Prop. 8, while 17 percent said they aren't sure how the court should rule.
In the same poll, 14 percent or respondents said their opinion on the matter has changed in recent years, echoing previous polling that indicated a shift in favor of same-sex marriage since the ban won voter approval in 2008.
The KPIX poll of 500 adults in the Golden State was conducted from June 14 to 16 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5%.
