Police Release Sketches Of 3 Suspected Of Killing Hayward Teen
HAYWARD (CBS SF) – Hayward police on Tuesday released sketches of three suspects who are responsible for fatally shooting a Hayward teen earlier this month.
Kionta Murphy Jr., 17, was shot and killed at approximately 1 a.m. on Aug. 4 near Arf Avenue and Morningside Drive by a trio of male suspects, according to Hayward police.
All are alleged to be Hispanic males in their late teens who fled in a silver SUV, police said.
A witness who was present at the scene helped provide the sketches of the suspects, Sgt. Ryan Cantrell said.
The first suspect is said to be about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 175 pounds, with short black hair and was wearing a black T-shirt, black jeans, and possibly black Vans shoes at the time of the shooting.
The second suspect is said to be about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 175 to 200 pounds, and was wearing a black beanie, a black T-shirt with a white and red design on the front, dark colored pants, and dark sunglasses.
The third suspect is said to be about 5 feet 6 inches tall and was wearing a black beanie, black T-shirt, and dark colored pants at the time.
The Hayward Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspects. Police urge citizens who may recognize suspects or have other information about the case to call Detective Steve Riley at (510) 293-7034.
Hayward Unified School District board president John Taylor said following the killing that Murphy had recently graduated from Mt. Eden High School, participated on the school's wrestling and football teams, and had planned to join the U.S. Marine Corps.
