Kenwood Man Accused Of Assaulting Woman After Their Dogs Fought Surrenders
KENWOOD (CBS SF) - A man suspected of assaulting a woman after their dogs got in a fight on Sunday turned himself in to Sonoma County sheriff's deputies in Santa Rosa on Tuesday evening.
Paul Mott, 53, of Kenwood, surrendered around 7:30 p.m., sheriff's Sgt. Dave Thompson said.
"He saw the media reports and wanted to give his account," Thompson said.
Mott was arrested on suspicion of robbery, battery and cruelty to animals, and was booked into Sonoma County Jail on $50,000 bail. He posted bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Sonoma County Superior Court on Monday.
The alleged victim in the case, a 60-year-old woman, reported that she was attacked Sunday morning after her dog and a man's Australian shepherd got into a fight on a trail on property near Glen Ellen owned by the Sonoma Developmental Center, Thompson said.
The woman told investigators that the man approached her aggressively, crossed his dog leash around her neck and yelled at her, Thompson said.
She said she was able to fight the man off and she threatened to take his picture with her cellphone camera, according to Thompson.
The woman said the man then ripped off her glasses, yanked the cellphone from her hand and threw it into Lake Suttonfield, Thompson said.
The man allegedly kicked her dog several times and ran toward Arnold Drive, Thompson said. The woman flagged down a hiker, who called the sheriff's office. Deputies responded at 8:50 a.m., Thompson said.
The suspect was described as a white man about 50 years old with thin gray hair and a brown-and-gray beard. Thompson said the sheriff's office was preparing to compile a sketch of the suspect before Mott turned himself in.
