KCBS In Depth: Giants Begin Title Defense
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Major league teams are making their way back on the diamond, as spring training gets underway in both Florida and Arizona.
And for the first time since arriving in San Francisco, the Giants are the defending World Series champions. The team is remarkably unchanged from last year, with only slight tweaks to the roster.
Because of that, San Francisco Giants President and Chief Operating Officer Larry Baer said there is no reason why the team can't repeat.
Baer touched on ticket sales, which are up about 60 percent over the same time last year.
He also said the team will continue to fight a possible move by the Oakland A's to San Jose, citing the Giants territorial rights as the main point of opposition.
He also looked at the overall landscape of Major League Baseball, including labor negotiations, revenue sharing and small market vs. big market teams.
