Katy Perry Sings 'Rise' & 'Roar' At Democratic National Convention

By Brian Ives

(RADIO.COM) – At the final night of the Democratic National Convention, Katy Perry took the stage after a series of speakers that included a number of private citizens, four star General John Allen, and basketball legend Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

"Both of my parents are pastors and staunch Republicans," Perry told the audience. "I do have an open mind, and I have a voice. So I'm asking you to have an open mind and to use your voice because on November 8, you'll be just as powerful as any NRA lobbyist or billionaire. Or just cancel out your weird cousin's vote." Perry noted that she has been on the road with Hillary Clinton for much of her campaign.

Singing into a red white and blue microphone, she sang "Rise," which is also the theme song of NBC's TV coverage of the 2016 Olympics, and then went into her anthem, "Roar."

Perry has moved far past the phase of her career where she has to open for anyone, but she seemed more than happy to open for Chelsea Clinton, who will introduce her mother, Hillary Clinton.
