Kaepernick Sits Out The Presidential Election

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, whose National Anthem protest has galvanized race relations across the country and drawn the ire of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, says he will not be voting on Tuesday, according to a published report.

According to Sports Illustrated, Kaepernick told one of their reporters he would not be heading to the polling place on Tuesday.

Kaepernick spoke about his dislike for both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump back in September.

"It was embarrassing to watch that these are our two candidates," Kaepernick told reporters. "Both are proven liars and it almost seems like they're trying to debate who's less racist…And at this point...you have to pick the lesser of two evils. But in the end, it's still evil."

The 29-year-old NFL veteran began sitting or kneeing for the National Anthem since early in the preseason to protest the state of race relations in the country.

His action has triggered similar protests by other professional, college and high school athletes.

When Trump first heard of Kaepernick's protest, he told the audience at a campaign rally that "maybe he (Kaepernick) should find a country that works better for him."

Trump has also blamed Kaepernick's action for a decline in television ratings for NFL games this season.
