Judge Bars Garridos From Jailhouse Phone Calls
PLACERVILLE (AP) -- The Bay Area couple charged with kidnapping Jaycee Dugard and holding her captive for 18 years have temporarily lost the right to talk to each other on the telephone.
Jail officials say they believe Phillip and Nancy Garrido may have been using the calls to synchronize their testimony.
El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Douglas Phimister suspended the monthly, 5-minute phone conversations during a hearing Thursday.
County Counsel Edward Knapp says he does not have details on what the couple may have discussed. The judge instructed Knapp to submit written evidence next week for discontinuing the calls permanently.
