Josh Nunes Wins Stanford QB Job, Replacing Luck
STANFORD (CBS/AP) - Josh Nunes is Stanford's new starting quarterback.
Cardinal coach David Shaw announced Tuesday that the junior won the lengthy and close competition against sophomore Brett Nottingham. He replaces the NFL's No. 1 overall pick and two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up Andrew Luck.
Nunes missed most of last year with a right turf toe injury. The native of Upland in Southern California played in four games in 2010 and completed 2 of 4 passes for 7 yards, and coaches believe his knowledge of the playobook and game management top Nottingham's strong arm. Nottingham replaced Luck in six games last year, finishing 6 of 8 passing for 78 yards.
No. 21 Stanford opens the regular season against San Jose State on Aug. 31.
