John Mayer Responds To Alleged Anti-Taylor Swift Tweet

By Amanda Wicks

(RADIO.COM) – When Taylor Swift turned 27 yesterday (December 13th), her squad came big with the birthday wishes. After all, she's always one to bring some serious birthday love to her crew. But one man from her past didn't seem particularly thrilled with the date.

John Mayer tweeted a rather harsh stance on December 13th, and many thought he was taking a stab at Swift. "Tuesday, December 13 may be the lamest day of the year, conceptually," he posted yesterday. Mayer quickly deleted the tweet, but not before someone captured a screen shot and continued circulating his words.

On Wednesday, Mayer admitted he went about things wrong. He didn't apologize for what he said, but he did cop to handling the aftermath poorly by deleting what can never be deleted. "Looks like I shouldn't have deleted this tweet…" he shared along with a screen shot of a defense he tried to mount after his initial comment which reads in part: "Absolutely no shade," followed by a heart emoji.

Perhaps Mayer is angling to get Swift to write "Dear John Part 2." The two dated briefly beginning in November 2009, and when all was said and done with their quick back-and-forth love Swift wrote the song "Dear John." It didn't exactly paint him in the most flattering light.

Check out the tweets below followed by Swift's song, "Dear John":
