Jerry Brown Ready To Get Down To Business For California
OAKLAND (KCBS) - Jerry Brown held his first news conference as governor-elect on Wednesday and said he is ready to roll up his sleeves for California.
The 72-year-old Democrat, who defeated Republican Meg Whitman in the governor's race, said he plans to approach the job with renewed energy.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
"I said if you want frugality, I'm your man," he said. "I expect to have some difficult discussions, but we will go forward and do the best we can."
Brown, who won his third term as governor on Tuesday night, also talked about the deficit and economic challenges the state is facing.
"We have to live within our means. We're going to move as much government responsibility as we can to the local level," said Brown. "And no taxes unless the people make clear that that's what they want."
Brown also promised to be a "straight shooter" with the residents of California.
