Japanese Diplomat Living In San Bruno Faces Domestic Violence Trial
SAN BRUNO (CBS / AP) -- A Bay Area-based Japanese diplomat is set to stand trial for allegedly assaulting his wife.
The San Mateo County Times reports 33-year-old Yoshiaki Nagaya will stand trial on 12 felony assault and domestic violence charges. He has pleaded not guilty in the case.
San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Lisa Novak ruled Friday there is enough evidence for Nagaya to stand trial.
Prosecutors say Nagaya assaulted his wife nearly a dozen times, allegedly stabbing her with a screwdriver, striking her with a laptop and tossing her out of a moving car.
Nagaya serves as vice consul in the Japanese consulate in San Francisco and lives in San Bruno.
He was arrested in March and is free on $350,000 bail. His attorney declined to comment outside court Friday.
