Janet Napolitano Expected To Be Confirmed As UC President In SF
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was getting ready to meet the 26 people who were expected to become her new bosses—members of the University of California's governing board.
The UC Board of Regents was meeting in San Francisco Thursday to confirm Napolitano's nomination to become the 10-campus system's 20th president. UC spokesman Steve Montiel said the former Arizona governor will have an opportunity to address the board, which also will be voting on her salary and benefits package.
The confirmation was expected to be swift and non-contentious. Napolitano was the unanimous choice of a 10-member search committee and has already announced her resignation from President Barack Obama's cabinet.
She was expected to take over as UC's next leader—and first female president—in late September.
