Jan Wahl Movie Review: Royal Wedding Celebration!
(KCBS) - KCBS Entertainment Editor Jan Wahl keeps the royal magic alive via the silver screen. If you can get enough of the royals, here are some movies you may enjoy.
The Queen (PG-13)
Helen Mirren won the Oscar as Elizabeth II, James Cromwell suitably not amused as Prince Phillip. The film concentrates on the queen's reaction to the death of Princess Diana. The outpouring of love and support catches her off-guard, even though Michael Sheen as Tony Blair tries to warn her of alienating her subjects.
The King's Speech (R)
Colin Firth took home Oscar gold as George VI, a man forced to become king when his brother abdicates. Add to the drama that he stutters and is coming into an England about to go to war with Hitler. It just doesn't get better than this smart storytelling. Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter play it for truth, too. Even if you are not a royal watcher and could care less, this is a film that celebrates courage and the ability to overcome obstacles, for royals and commoners!
