iPhone Fans Line Up At Bay Area Verizon Stores
SAN JOSE (KCBS) - A dedicated few waited overnight outside Bay Area Verizon stores for the chance to buy an iPhone not tied to the AT&T network.
Thursday, Verizon began in-store sales of the iPhone, a week after it began taking online orders. Until now, AT&T had been the exclusive carrier of Apple's popular smart phone in the U.S.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
Employees at the Verizon store in the Blossom Hill Shopping Center in San Jose cheered as the doors opened at 7 a.m. Thursday for the first day of in-store sales.
Danielle Martinez said she decided to switch because she wanted something more fun than her Blackberry.
"I guess I like all the apps," she said.
The first man in line showed up at 8 p.m. the night before, eventually joined by some two dozen more for the wait. Verizon started accepting online orders for its iPhone from new subscribers on Wednesday.
Verizon said its iPhone has generated a record number of orders since it became available to subscribers last week.
