Investigators Hold Last Scheduled Water Search In Sierra LaMar Case
MORGAN HILL (KCBS) — The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department dive team announced there would be no further water searches scheduled in the Sierra LaMar case.
Monday's search of the Uvas Reservoir was the last of its kind and marks the end of a chapter. Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza said future water searches will be based on tips.
"To date, the dive team has searched over half a dozen reservoirs; Uvas, Chesborough, Coyote, Calero, Almaden, Anderson, and Guadalupe. [They've] been searched more than once and there's been over 40 small ponds and lakes in that search as well," Cardoza said.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
The mother of defendant Antolin Garcia-Torres, who has been charged with Sierra LaMar's murder, has said that he went fishing on the day of LaMar's disappearance. LaMar, 15, was last seen on the morning of March 16th.
But Cardoza said that's not something they're talking about.
"There has been some information out there as far as Garcia-Torres' hobbies or activities and fishing. We just can't comment on that one way or another. He is in custody that is a fact. The case does remain open; we're still focused and targeted on finding Sierra and locating her," Cardoza said.
The defendant, who has not entered a plea, is expected to be back in court on July 10th.
