Suicidal Person Threatening To Jump Closes I-680 In San Jose For More Than 9 Hours, Freeway Back Open
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – All lanes of Interstate 680 at Alum Rock Avenue in San Jose are open early Tuesday morning, more than nine hours after a suicidal person threatened to jump off an overpass, which prompted a full closure of the freeway during the Monday evening commute.
According to the California Highway Patrol, all lanes of the interstate were reopened around midnight. It was unclear how the situation was resolved. The CHP said the San Jose Police Department is handling the attempted suicide situation.

All lanes of the freeway at Alum Rock Avenue were closed to traffic when the woman threatened to jump around 2:30 p.m. The freeway remained closed for the entire evening rush hour. The California Highway Patrol said the northbound lanes of the freeway were opened shortly before 9:00 p.m.
While police attempted to negotiate with her, southbound traffic was diverted at the McKee Road exit. When the northbound lanes were closed, traffic was diverted at Capitol Expressway.

During the height of the evening commute, southbound traffic was backed up from Jacklin Road, before Highway 237 in Milpitas. The northbound backup extended to Interstate 280, all the way to the Highway 85 interchange in Cupertino, about 13.5 miles away.
Some commuters took to Twitter to post pictures of the backup.
