Interstate 280 Construction Progressing On Schedule, So Far
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The bridge hinge construction project that was taking place along Interstate Highway 280 throughout the Memorial Day weekend was moving along on schedule according to a Caltrans spokesperson.
Crews began pouring concrete Saturday afternoon said Stephen Williams, a spokesman for Caltrans.
Southbound Interstate Highway 280 is closed in San Francisco until 5 a.m. Tuesday to allow work on the freeway viaduct.
The hinges allow the bridge to accommodate expansion and contraction, as well as the movement caused by an earthquake.
The closure extends from 6th Street to U.S. Highway 101 and affects only southbound traffic, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel Hill.
Williams said so far everything was running smoothly and the traffic pattern last night wasn't much different than that of a normal Friday commute and Giants game.
However, Williams recommends Giants fans use public transportation to travel to this weekend's games at AT&T Park.
