I-10 Freeway Collapse Closes Main Artery Between Arizona And California
PHOENIX (CBS/AP/CBS SF) -- Heavy rains caused a caused a 30-foot section of Interstate 10 to collapse, shutting down the main corridor between California and Arizona.
The collapse happened Sunday, injuring one motorist and leaving countless others searching for alternate routes.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says I-10 westbound is closed in western Arizona near Quartzsite at State Route 95.
Westbound I-10 drivers will be detoured to State Route 95. Drivers traveling to Southern California may take SR 95 south to Interstate 8 and then travel west to California.
Motorists may also travel on SR 95 north to Parker, where drivers may cross into California using State Route 62 westbound.
Further north, Interstate 40 is another route for travel between Arizona and California.

Transportation officials say State Routs 177 and 78 are also closed due to flooding.
Crews began assessing the damage Monday. No word yet as to when the road will reopen.
