Ingleside Heights PG&E Customers Without Power After Utility Pole Collapses
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — There are 157 PG&E customers in San Francisco's Ingleside Heights neighborhood that remain without power after a utility pole caught fire and collapsed this morning, a utility company spokesman said.
Power was initially out for about 1,200 customers after a pole started burning and collapsed just before 9 a.m. near Arch and Garfield streets, PG&E spokesman Jason King said.
As of 10:30 a.m., all but the 157 customers have had power restored. Full restoration is expected around 11:30 a.m., he said.
The fire started in the pole because of a buildup of dust and debris from the prolonged dry period, King said.
Heavy moisture this morning sparked an electric line this morning and the pole started burning, along with a transformer and wires. Fire crews responded to the area at 8:43 a.m. and put out the blaze, fire officials said.
King said the line was quickly de-energized and repairs are under way.
Fire crews closed the four-block radius around the fallen pole.
The San Francisco Municipal Railway 29-Sunset bus line is being rerouted around the area, according to Muni spokesman Paul Rose.
