Hurricane Irene Cancels Some Flights From Bay Area To East Coast
SAN FRANCISCO INT'L AIRPORT (CBS SF) -- United Airlines and Virgin America have both canceled flights in and out of San Francisco International Airport on Friday and Saturday in response to the expected arrival of Hurricane Irene, airport officials said.
United has canceled five flights Friday including three to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and two to Newark Liberty International Airport, airport spokesman Mike McCarron said. The airline also canceled eight flights for Saturday including four to JFK, three to Newark and one to Philadelphia International Airport.
Virgin America has canceled eight flights for Saturday including four to JFK, three to Washington Dulles International Airport and one to Boston Logan International Airport.
No other carriers flying between SFO and the northeast have canceled flights as of Friday evening, McCarron said.
Oakland International Airport officials said that as of Friday evening, no airlines have canceled flights in response to the hurricane.
