Hundreds Attend San Jose Funeral For Quarry Shooting Victim
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Funeral services were held in San Jose Wednesday for one of the victims of last week's shooting at a Cupertino quarry, with more than 400 people turning out.
The memorial was standing room only at an Oak Hill Cemetery chapel as family members, friends, and co-workers of Manuel Pinon came to celebrate his life. His aunt, Luz Brown, said that working at the plant was a family affair. Both Pinon's uncle Mike, who was shot in the arm, and his brother Jerry, work there.
"Jerry was actually coming off shift when Manny was starting, so the brothers waved each other off that morning on the road, not knowing that was going to be the last time," said Brown.
Lehigh Cement plant supervisor Douglas Bushman remembered Pinon as a hard worker.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
"He was very diligent in trying to make the department successful, and he was a great guy," said Bushman. "We talked sports because I'm a 49er fan and he was a 49er fan."
Life-long friend Ron Rodriquez said that Pinon also loved cars.
"He had a '54 and he just loved hanging out with his friends and being with his family," said Rodriquez.
Shareef Allman is suspected of killing three people and shooting seven others on October 5th. Allman himself died from a gunshot wound the following day after an intense police manhunt.
