Huge Crowd Expected In San Francisco For Fleet Week Weekend
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Three-hundred thousand people are expected along San Francisco's waterfront this weekend to see the Blue Angels and other Fleet Week events. Transit officials warn to leave the car at home as traffic is expected to come to a standstill in some of the city's more popular areas.
Adding to the congestion on Sunday is a 49er game and the Italian Heritage Day parade in North Beach.
Jeanie Marzocco who lives in the East Bay said she and her husband will be taking BART on Sunday.
KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:
"We're going to hit the Columbus Day parade and as you're out there, you'll see the fleets. There are so many things going on," Marzocco said.
Transit officials said traffic along the waterfront comes to a standstill and parking lots are full hours before the air show starts.
Christine Foley is among the thousands planning to come see the Blue Angels.
"I'm well aware of what the crowds are down there. My plan is to take the street car, get off at the Ferry Building and just walk the Embarcadero down to Pier 39," said Foley.
The most crowded areas are expected to be Crissy Field, the Marina Green, the Embarcadero, Lands End and roads in the Marin Headlands that look over the bay.
