How Much Can Pope Francis Change The Catholic Church During His Papacy?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Pope Francis has been willing to open discussion about social changes within Catholic teaching. He's captured the attention of not only Catholics, but that of the world with his focus on the poor, his rejection of the pomp of the Vatican, but mostly because of his openness to discussing prospects for big changes to the church.
Garry Wills, a Pulitzer prize-winning historian, Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University and author of several best-sellers on the subject of the Catholic Church and religion in public life, who happens to be a life-long Catholic himself has a new book: "The Future of the Catholic Church with Pope Francis".
He says change is inevitable and helps us sort through the dichotomy of the church in this week's In Depth segment.
In what appears to be in stark contrast to the approach of Pope Francis, the notably liberal San Francisco Diocese is led by notably conservative Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, notably and the two continue to collide in controversy.
