How 2 Chainz Turned 2012 Into An All-Gold-Everything Affair
It's an understatement to say that 2 Chainz had a breakout year in 2012. His debut album Based On A T.R.U. Story has been nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Rap Album. But he's also made an impact with his fashion sense and musical ubiquity.
In 2012, the in-demand rapper linked with a wide range of artists from Nicki Minaj to Kreaysawn to Justin Bieber. B.O.A.T.S., which was released on August 14, 2012, was certified Gold (500,000 copies) by the RIAA, but it was not the only glitter surrounding 2 Chainz.
Outside of music, he outdid his name by sporting more than two chains and other eye-catching jewelry. For the artist formerly known as Titi Boi, style figured heavily into his plan.
"It's about me doing next and doing something I'm comfortable with," he told CBS Local. "My whole thing for my album was black and gold. I wore black and gold for the majority of the Drake's [Club Paradise] tour."
In March, it was announced that Chainz would be joining Drake on his Club Paradise tour. In 2013 2 Chainz will be hitting Europe with Lil Wayne and Mac Miller. Surely, he'll continue to push the style envelope.
"I bring something different to the game. These pieces are vintage pieces," he explained of his jewelry. "I haven't rocked too many diamonds as of late. The price of gold has definitely risen. That's just my angle on the game. This is vintage Chanel; this is vintage Versace. They are unique museum pieces, they are runway pieces. One of one type flavor just like myself. One of one."
